Embarrassed By My Species

head in hands.jpgSociety reeks of the weak.

They might not be everywhere all the time, but the stench of just one weak minded individual has the ability to stamp out all that is good in any given arena, be it physical or mental.

Sometimes the weak throw beer on ballplayers from the bleachers, sometimes they issue fatwas because someone exercised creative license in regard to an archaic lifestyle, and sometimes they walk into Safeway and murder people in droves.

While such instances might not seem like everyday occurrences, let me assure you, they are.  We might not hear about every instance, every day, from every corner of the planet; but it seems that the inability to exact rational thought is something that has hindered mankind since… well… since even before we were called ‘mankind’.

Okay, then, what the hell can we do about it?  What is the solution?  The problem is easily identified, but how do we even begin the process of fixing it?

I don’t have the answer.

Apparently, no one does.

Tragedy continues to strike at the sloppy hands of the weak.

We may not have the answers yet, but if we make a stronger effort to think, to listen, to have compassion for our fellow man — on an individual level — maybe progress can be made.

At the very least, making a personal vow to do the above is a proactive step.  And as a species, we need to be as proactive as we possibly can, before it’s too late.

This makes absolutely no sense. The world lost a collection of very valuable people. All those who perished, especially the 9-year-old, could have made such a difference in our world in future years. As a Yankees fan, I may not like Red Sox GM Theo Epstein but at the end of the day, I respect him and I respect him as a human being. In other words, I have differences with people, but I still care about them individually and collectively among those who share life with us at the present moment in time. This was a very sad weekend…

It is embarrassing as a species that after several 100,000 years of so called evolution so many humans still have not managed to grasp the concept that their “I believe. I want. I hold dear.” does not give them the right to harm those who’s “I believe. I want. I hold dear.” is different. While there are many good people out there who do the right thing and can agree to disagree, the people who cannot are more numerous and their actions are louder and more apt to receive world-wide media attention. It’s depressing.

Such a sad tragedy. Among the killed, was third-grader Christina-Taylor Green, daughter of Dodgers scout John Greene, and granddaughter of former Phillies pitcher and manager Dallas Greene.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all that passed away and to their families and friends.

Jane — I think that’s the consensus feeling right now.
    Russel — Hope you’re right.
Ron — History has proven that it will unfortunately. It is a terrible reality to face.
    Scott — Agreed.
Kristen — More proof that we live in a “me me me” world. Sad.
Emma — Thanks for the information. I had no idea. It’s such a sad situation.

I really wanted to throw up when I heard about the shooting. I talked to Dallas this past summer shortly after Robin Roberts passed and he was clearly torn up about that. Then to lose a grandchild…and in such a way…it is just unbearable.
You are right…something needs to be done. Wish I knew what that was :O(

Jenn, my heart definitely goes out to Mr. Green and his family and all who have been affected.

I was reading a story the other day that Dallas Green’s granddaughter went to that market with a neighborhood friend eager to see and hopefully meet the congresswoman since she just won election to her school’s Student Council.

Here was a young person eager and willing to learn the political process at such a young age, and a cast-off of the system we all try to ignore came into that rally and takes her budding future as well as her life away.
I wish they had not outlawed hangings in Arizona, this guy deserves to hang by the neck until dead…..I will not be politically correct about that notion.
