Waino Es Bueno, But the Elbow Not So Much

Waino es bueno

Ask anyone from my parents’ generation where they were and what they were doing when President Kennedy was assassinated, when the Beatles invaded America or when they first saw Jacqueline Bisset in a wet t-shirt, and chances are he or she will be able to recall every, single, little detail.

Unfortunately, February 23, 2011 will be that day for me: the day Waino went down for the season — a seemingly unerasable stain on the psyche of a bonafide baseball beserker (me, duh).

Booze was consumed, things were broken, neighbors were frightened.

But that’s over now.  I got it all out of my system.  And just as in dealing with any other tragic situation, I allowed myself to grieve.  But now it’s time to man-up and put things in perspective.

We are still talking about the St. Louis friggin’ Cardinals here.  And while we may not have him locked up long-term, we do have the greatest single baseball player of the last quarter century headlining our team, every single day in Albert Pujols.

We still have an ace in Chris Carpenter.  We still have AP protection in Matt Holliday.  We still have running-game assassin extraordinaire Yadi Molina behind the plate.

And we have the winningest active manager in the game leading them all in Tony LaRussa.

Ain’t no reason to cry, fellow Redbirds fans.  The NL Central climate may have changed; we probably don’t line up to run away with the division now, but we have every reason to watch every game and feel really damn good about it.

Rally the troops.

This is war.

Haters g’on hate.

Hate me.  Fine.  Just don’t hate me ‘cuz I’m right.

Peace,

Jeff

I felt awful when I found out about Adam. But in all honesty, I do believe the Cards will contend in 2011. They know how to win, and since 2011 is their last year guaranteed with Albert, I think they’re going to make the most of it. I’m sick of everyone jumping on the “Reds and Brewers are gonna own the Cardinals” bandwagon. Not gonna happen.

I wondered how you were doing when I heard about Wainwright. *hugs* as the kids do say on their crazy Facebook and twitter these days. I feel terrible for him. I don’t like any of the players getting injured, especially like that and in spring training. But he should be back sometime next season in bionic fine form, no less, and while the Cardinals have good pitching, they are not a team centered entirely around their pitching. I think your Cards will still be competitive and right in the thick of the pennant race this season.

Wainwright, I know how this is. You see we had Westbrook. The same thing happened to him (Tommy John) We waited. Yet in the end, Westbrook was traded west. Hopefully with Carpenter having Tommy John, Westbrook having it and now Wainwright, there isnt something in the way mechanics are taught these days. Dont blame this on Duncan, self! Take care Aaron mlbtribefan.mlblogs.com

Virginia — I agree. Those teams are better, but not unbeatable. That’s for sure.
Kristen — Thanks for the hugs. I’m better now. Gonna be a long season, but you know how that goes with injury (Kendry). We’ll soldier on and enjoy it as much as we can.
Aaron — Lots of TJ surgery, eh? Man. Seems like everyone will have it or has had it at some point.
Tucker — TLR is magic. Time for it to shine.

Jane — Thanks… but don’t get too excited yet. Let’s see how long I can hold my head up above water this season 😉
Prince — Yeah, you got a point. I’m gonna be quiet for a minute now…
