Une Complainte Familiers

It’s interleague weekend, y’all.  According to King Bud, this is when I’m supposed to get excited about made-up rivalries with catchy names like the I-70 Series, the Ohio Cup and the Battle of the Beltway.

Um… no?

Battle of the Beltway?!?!?  STOP IT!  JUST STOP IT!

Don’t you know that every time you hark on some fantasy-driven nostaliga concerning the Washington Nationals, my Expos-missin’ heart suffers more unquantifiable pain?!?

That damn Molière was right: “You only die once, and it’s for such a long time.”

But let us not forget, dear readers.  Instead, let us continue to pour out our liquor, to writhe in sweet Youppi memories, to saver Denny Martinez pitching a perfect game in baby blue pajamas.

Hate me ‘cuz I don’t like change, just don’t hate me ‘cuz I’m right.

  1. Rays Renegade

I honestly do get excited by these transitional league match-ups where I get to see budding stars like Joey Votto, King Albert and the baseb running stylings of Michael Bourn.
Makes an early season mish-mosh where Mgrs can test out their Al/NL devised line-ups to see the good, bad and ugly without jeapordizing a 3,5 or 7-game series in the post season.
But then again, I like indoor soccer, some NASCAR tracks and sometimes hit hockey games up for the fights…..guess it just depends on what sport and its offerings you are hungry for….

  2. Keleigh

Except for the real “natural” rivalries (heaven help you if you are actually on a NYC subway at the end of one of the games in the subway series with everyone who just poured on the subway from the game), the rest of the created rivalries are kind of lame. I don’t really care one way or the other most of the time about the NL playing the AL, but they should just pick the match-ups out of a hat instead of trying to be kitsch and clever and create rivalries. It would be less awkward and embarassing for all parties involved.

And, you’re not alone in indulging in a little of the Expo nostalgia when IL play rolls around.

  3. Red State Blue State

Randy — The best “M” in all of sports!
RR — Yeah, still not convinced. The World Series… that’s where it belongs. No where else.
Keleigh — Good to know I got good company!
